Through history and arts of Silesia

Yesterday we had a new task: an active research about history and  tradition of Salesia region. It was an easy work because the Region established a huge museum about it. In this article I will write not only about Silesia but also of how to arrive in Katowice from Wola.  So we start our time travel with an early wake up to take bus from Wola, bus stop: Wola Dom Kultury number 56 at 6,31 am, to arrive in Bieruń Ściernie. Here you can take number 54 or 686 to Tychy Lodovisko. When we arrive in Lodowisko it was 8 more or less. To go in Katowice you have to go in the other side of street and wait bus number 4 or 14 to Katowice Aleja Korfantego. At 8,35 we arrive in Katowice in a warm day of“Lipcu”.  I would point that it is a slow/long trip but the buses are in time.

We got off at “Aleja Korfantego”, that is the main street. 20180720_1509591-e1532508768217.jpgIn your left there is the center of Katowice in the right the cultural district. It was early so we decide to take breakfast with soft and big “pączki”, like donuts. You can find it in 3 Maja street.

Going straight to Aleja Korfantego, we arrived in Silesian Insurgents park. In this park with its monument we had our first meeting with  history of Silesia. This sculpture commemorate those who took part of three uprisings of Upper Silesia, in 1919, 1920 and 1921.  Put a pin in that dates because they are very important in our time travel.

20180724_084607In front of us we had the majestic spaceship shape “Spodek” . Its architecture is a symbol of Seventy and it host concert, business event.  Next building is “Polish National Radio Sinfony Orchestra”, it was closed for summer breaks we plan to came back in September.  I suggest to you to go through the “Sensorial Park”. It is between NPROS and Muzeum Sląskie. It’s quite and if you are with Natia, she will improvise for you Georgian dance on the stage of the little amphitheater.

Now I was a little bit excited, finally we was in front the Museum. It is a very interesting building. On the ground we saw a charming post-industrial landscape, it was a Katowice coal mine. The museum is underground composed by 4 levels. Here you can visit  Permanent exhibition like: The Gallery of Polish Art where it is possible to explore the most significant trend before, during the wars and after 1945.  I really apprentice  the post war period for the  strong message of self-determination (social and political) send by artist.

Downstairs there is ” Laboratory of Space” exhibition that want to demonstrate the evolution of European and Polish theater. There is costumes, design of stage,  sketches of different age.

And Finally the highlight of the day: “The Light of History” Upper Silesia over the age. I loved everything of this journey: the name, the idea and contents. “The Light of history” is a tribute to mine where held exhibition. I don’t want to tell you abut historical lineage in details because you can open a history book and  find everything because the History of Upper Silesia is the History of Europe.  But we can’t understand before to came here how special is this region. Not only for natural resource causes of bitter fights between Poland and Germany. Not only for her strategic position. Not only for tragedies and wars that drenched of  blood  its ground. But for the Silesian people proud of his ancient roots, of sweat of miners, of his tears and patriots. Silesia is a bridge between east and west, past and future.  And also today is in the center of strategies of European and International industrial sector.

To have an idea about this issue I recommended this interesting article What is Silesia.
